Many of the team at Smartraft® Ltd have over 30 years experience installing, supplying, sub-contracting and managing Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) projects. This vast amount of experience along with commitment and devotion to the VRS industry has resulted in the amazing innovation that is now known as Smartraft®.
Our teams, when discussing the everyday problems we face in our industry, and aware of the desire for innovation, continually challenge what we do every day and look for safer, better, quicker, more environmentally beneficial solutions.
As a result, Smartraft® was initially developed as a concept and theoretic calculations were completed. From these calculations, a first prototype mould was designed and the initial Smartraft® foundations produced.
From there, extensive testing has been undertaken with conclusive results to ensure the Patent Pending Smartraft® product is fully compliant to highway specifications including CD377, BS EN 1317 and Series 400.
Smartraft® is approved for use with several proprietary Vehicle Restraint Systems and compatible with non-propriety systems. Smartraft® has now been installed on numerous projects, from local authority roads, major trunks roads and high-profile Smart Motorways, including A14 Huntington to Cambridge and M4 Jct 3-12 Smart Motorway.
Smartraft® is an engaging and exciting product that continues to be developed to make highway construction safer, more efficient and beneficial for designers, contractors and road users, not just in the UK, but also worldwide.
We are all looking forward to the continued journey that Smartraft® Ltd and its related modular designed products will bring.

I thought I’d like to put out a BIG WELL DONE to all that have made a fantastic effort over the past few weeks to achieve where we are today on the A1 switch. Fantastic effort and collaboration from all those involved in making the switch go very smoothly and safely. It’s a pleasure to work with direct labour and sub-contractors who really care about safety and quality, and prove we can work in tight potentially dangerous areas by cordoning off their work sites to ensure plant pedestrian interface is maintained at all times and still get the job done on time. You are all a credit to your companies.

Structures
Often at structures, the verges are particularly busy areas. Smartraft® can help in resolving many of the common problems experienced at bridges / gantries / viaducts, etc.
At gantries, for example, service and drainage features are squeezed between the carriageway and the gantry foundations, making installation of VRS posts and / or foundations problematic.
Features such as these can be quickly, easily and safely located under Smartraft® making design simple without compromise.
